Bitcoin ATMs in Central: a pier, an arcade and a 15th-floor desk

Hong Kong’s financial district has surprisingly few places to buy crypto with cash: one machine at the Star Ferry, one in a claw-machine arcade, one that only wakes up after 11pm. Here they are, with the office-floor OTC counter and the nearest machines that buy back.

Central is where the HKMA sits in Two IFC and where the big banks keep their head offices, yet if you want a Bitcoin ATM in Central, Hong Kong, the choice is thin. On the operator lists we checked on 6 October 2026, Central has three machines, all buy-only, and one staffed counter, fifteen floors up. Every number on this page comes from operator lists, not site visits, so check the operator’s page before you set off.

The three Bitcoin ATMs in Central

Two operators share the district. CoinUnit runs one machine at Central Pier 7; COINHERO runs two, one in the Meow Claw arcade at 151 Queen’s Road Central and one inside Space Club on the ground floor of The Centrium, 60 Wyndham Street. Localcoin has nothing in Central. The cards below use the addresses exactly as the operators publish them:

The three machines could hardly be more different. Pier 7 and Meow Claw are open around the clock, so they work for a lunchtime errand or a late trip home. The Space Club machine is listed only for Wednesday to Saturday, 11pm to 5:30am: a nightlife machine on the Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo strip that follows the club’s hours. Walk past on a Tuesday afternoon and it is no use to you.

On fees, COINHERO publishes 13% plus HK$100 per purchase (6.5% for registered members), a HK$500 minimum, and a rule that the first note must be HK$1,000 or HK$500; anything above HK$100,000 needs registration with ID, a selfie and a fingerprint. CoinUnit publishes no fee at all and says the exact charge appears on the screen. It takes only HK$500 and HK$1,000 notes and sells BTC, ETH, DOGE, LTC and TRX. Put into numbers: HK$3,000 of Bitcoin through an unregistered COINHERO purchase costs about HK$490 in fees, roughly a sixth of the money.

Pier 7: no ferry ticket needed

CoinUnit lists its Central machine on the upper deck of Central Pier No. 7, in the non-payment area on the Tsim Sha Tsui-bound side, next to the HSBC ATM. Non-payment means before the turnstiles, so you don’t need a ferry ticket or an Octopus tap. From Hong Kong or Central MTR station, the usual route is through IFC and along the footbridges to the piers.

Two groups get the most out of it. The first is anyone arriving on the Airport Express at Hong Kong station: since Tung Chung and the airport have no machines at all, Pier 7 is the closest crypto ATM to that line. The second is people who work in Central and live in Kowloon. The same pier puts you on a Star Ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui, where two COINHERO machines buy crypto back for cash.

The 15th-floor OTC desk

Central’s only verified staffed counter is Crypto HK’s Central Trading & Education Centre in Room 13 on the 15th floor of 9 Queen’s Road Central. It is an office suite, not a shopfront: you take the lift up, and it keeps strict office hours, Monday to Friday from 10am to 7pm, closed at weekends and on public holidays.

Crypto HK’s website says cash purchases in Hong Kong dollars, renminbi or US dollars need no appointment, and neither do cash sales under HK$100,000. Sales of HK$100,000 or more must be booked in advance, and if you want the proceeds by bank transfer, the minimum is HK$500,000. The same company runs two counters at Admiralty Centre with longer hours, including weekends. Remember that these shops hold no SFC licence today, so the protection on a large trade is nothing like a licensed platform’s. For the regulated route to big tickets and professional-investor desks, see our OTC desk guide.

Central also hosts offices of regulated firms. Third-party records, for instance, place SFC-licensed HKbitEX on On Hing Terrace. These are back offices with no retail counter, so turning up with cash won’t get you anywhere. The more visible crypto culture is community-led: Bitcoin Association HK has held meet-ups at Frank’s Records, 79 Wyndham Street.

USDT in Central: what shops can’t do

Plenty of people search for a USDT exchange shop in Central, usually because they want to pay someone overseas or turn USDT back into Hong Kong dollars. The law is the starting point. The Stablecoins Ordinance (Cap. 656) came into force on 1 August 2025, and only permitted offerors (licensed issuers, SFC-licensed firms and banks, among others) may offer specified stablecoins to the public. In its answer to LegCo question 10 on 10 September 2025, the government said OTC shops are not on that list.

So we don’t point you to any “USDT shop” in Central. If you need USDT, use a licensed platform or another regulated channel; our USDT guide and stablecoin rules explainer cover the options. Hong Kong dollar stablecoins are on the way too: the HKMA granted its first issuer licences to HSBC and Anchorpoint on 10 April 2026, but as of October 2026 neither is available to retail users.

Nearby alternatives

Central is light on machines, but the neighbours are one MTR stop or one ferry ride away. If you need to sell for cash, the Island’s only option is in Causeway Bay; if you want a person behind a counter after Central’s desk has closed, Admiralty is next door.

Staying safe with cash in Central

Central is generally safe, but next-door Sheung Wan had at least three large cash robberies linked to money changers between December 2025 and March 2026, one of them on 18 December 2025 outside 181 Queen’s Road Central. Carrying thick envelopes of cash along this stretch carries real risk. Don’t count notes in front of a machine, and be alert if you use the Wyndham Street unit in the small hours.

Scams are the other risk. An SCMP feature in September 2026 described how some “grey-market” ATMs in laundromats and claw arcades can turn users into fraud victims. One simple rule covers most cases: if a stranger tells you to buy crypto at an ATM and send it to an address they give you, treat it as a scam. Call the 18222 Anti-Scam Helpline or check the address on Scameter first.

Working in Central? Online may suit you better

For most people who work in Central, an ATM is not the sensible route. If your salary lands in a local bank, an FPS transfer to an SFC-licensed platform usually clears in minutes and costs a fraction of an ATM’s 13%. If you already use ZA Bank, Mox, Futu or Tiger, our bank and broker apps guide shows how to buy without opening anything new. To check who is licensed, start with the SFC-licensed platforms list.

Our take

Central’s cash-crypto scene is much smaller than its reputation.

Three buy-only machines and a weekday office desk. For a few hundred dollars, Pier 7 is the easiest stop. For anything larger, or to sell, skip Central and go to Causeway Bay or Tsim Sha Tsui, or use a licensed platform from your desk.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Bitcoin ATM in Central, Hong Kong?

Operator lists checked on 6 October 2026 show three: CoinUnit’s machine on the upper deck of Central Pier 7 (24/7), COINHERO’s unit inside the Meow Claw arcade at 151 Queen’s Road Central (24 hours), and COINHERO’s machine in Space Club at The Centrium, 60 Wyndham Street, open only Wednesday to Saturday from 11pm. All three are buy-only.

Can I sell Bitcoin for cash in Central?

Not at a machine. All three Central ATMs are buy-only. Older guides describe the Pier 7 machine as two-way, but CoinUnit’s current list doesn’t support that; it handles sales through an online form. The nearest buy-back machines are COINHERO’s 24-hour flagship at 1A Canal Road East in Causeway Bay, or K11 Art Mall across the harbour.

Is there a USDT exchange shop in Central?

Since the Stablecoins Ordinance took effect on 1 August 2025, OTC shops are not permitted to offer stablecoins such as USDT to the public. Central’s only verified staffed counter is Crypto HK’s 15th-floor office at 9 Queen’s Road Central, which lists cash buying and selling of crypto; we don’t present any shop as a USDT seller.

Do I need an appointment at the Central OTC desk?

According to Crypto HK’s website, cash purchases in HKD, CNY or USD need no appointment, nor do cash sales under HK$100,000. Sales of HK$100,000 or more must be booked, and sales paid out by bank transfer start at HK$500,000. The Central centre opens Monday to Friday, 10am to 7pm.

I just arrived on the Airport Express. Where is the nearest crypto ATM?

The CoinUnit machine at Central Pier 7 is the closest to Hong Kong station. It sits in the free area of the Star Ferry pier, so no ticket is needed, and it is open 24/7. It takes only HK$500 and HK$1,000 notes and shows its fee on screen. Visitors without an HKID should read our visitor guide.
