Looking for a Bitcoin ATM in Tai Po? The choice is small but well spread. As of 6 October 2026, COINHERO lists three machines in Tai Po and CoinUnit two, for five in total; Localcoin has none here. Two sit near Tai Po Market on Tai Ming Lane and Kwong Fuk Road, and three are in estate malls at Tai Yuen, Fu Heng and Fu Shin. All figures come from the operators’ own websites. We haven’t tested the machines, and “listed” doesn’t guarantee “working today”, so check the live operator page before you go.

Tai Po is a classic ATM-only district. There is no staffed crypto counter we could verify on any operator website, and all five machines are buy-only. That makes it convenient for putting a little cash into Bitcoin close to home. To turn crypto back into cash, or to deal with a person, you’ll need to head north to Sheung Shui or south to Sha Tin on the East Rail line.

Here they are in two groups. Addresses are copied exactly as each operator publishes them, ready for a map app. We only give a location pointer where we’re confident; the estate malls are usually a walk or a bus or minibus ride from the nearest MTR station, so plan the route first.

Tai Ming Lane and Kwong Fuk Road are both in the old market-town core of Tai Po. Each has a 24-hour machine inside a 365 Laundry, one run by COINHERO and the other by CoinUnit. If you live or work around Tai Po Market, these two are the most convenient, and because the two operators price differently, comparing the quote on each screen is a rare chance to shop around within a few minutes’ walk.

The other three are in housing estates. COINHERO’s machine on the ground floor of Tai Tak House, Tai Yuen Estate, is open 24 hours. The Speed Cut Center unit in Fu Heng Shopping Centre and the CAI NiAO unit in Fu Shin Shopping Centre follow shop hours, 10:30am to 8:30pm and noon to 9pm respectively. For a late-night visit, stick to Tai Yuen, Tai Ming Lane or Kwong Fuk Road.

Fees, notes and ID

Only two operators work in Tai Po, and their rules differ. COINHERO’s FAQ sets a fee of 13% plus HK$100 for unregistered users buying Bitcoin or Ether, and 6.5% for registered members. The minimum is HK$500, and the first note you insert must be HK$1,000 or HK$500; after that HK$100 notes are fine. Anything over HK$100,000 in one transaction requires registration with email, phone code, HKID or passport, selfie and fingerprint. Coins offered: BTC, ETH, BCH, DOGE and XAUt.

CoinUnit doesn’t publish fees; it says they can change at any time and the exact figure appears on the screen. Its minimum is also HK$500, it accepts only HK$500 and HK$1,000 notes, and it offers BTC, ETH, DOGE, LTC and TRX. You can’t sell at a CoinUnit machine; selling goes through a request form on its website. Our COINHERO and CoinUnit reviews compare the two networks in depth.

Based on COINHERO’s published 13% + HK$100 fee, excluding price spread. Checked 6 October 2026.

The flat HK$100 hits small purchases hardest: on HK$1,000, nearly a quarter disappears in fees. If you only want to try a thousand or two, buying on your phone through a licensed exchange is dramatically cheaper.

Are Tai Po’s machines worth using?

Pros

  • Five machines across Tai Po Market and three estates, walkable for most residents
  • Three open 24 hours
  • No account needed: cash in, coins out
  • Usually no ID below HK$100,000

Cons

  • Fees from about 13%, higher in percentage terms on small buys
  • Buy-only: selling means a trip to Sheung Shui
  • No staff on site; problems go to a hotline
  • Not SFC-licensed, so no Hong Kong investor protection

So who are Tai Po’s machines for? We’d say three groups: people who want to try buying Bitcoin once with a small amount of cash; newcomers who don’t yet have a Hong Kong bank account and can’t open a licensed exchange account (see our guide for visitors and newcomers); and people who value privacy and accept a higher fee for an instant, in-person trade. If you already have an HKID and a bank account and plan to buy monthly, ATM fees add up to a serious sum within a year.

Our take

Tai Po’s machines suit someone who wants a little Bitcoin tonight. If you plan to buy regularly, the answer isn’t a train to Sheung Shui either; it’s a licensed exchange account.

With no shop and no buy-back machine in Tai Po, whatever you buy here will most likely be sold online later anyway. If you’ll need an online account sooner or later, starting there saves you the 13%.

Selling: Sheung Shui or Sha Tin

The closest place to sell is Sheung Shui. From Tai Po Market, the East Rail line runs through Tai Wo and Fanling, and Sheung Shui is the third stop. In Sheung Shui town centre, three operators sit within a few streets: COINHERO has a 24-hour buy-and-sell machine at G/F, 14–16 San Kung Street, the only buy-back machine on the East Rail line north of Kowloon; One Satoshi has a staffed counter at Shop A1, 29 San Hong Street; and CoinUnit has a buy-only machine at 14 San Kin Street.

One Satoshi, Sha TinShatin Plaza L3, staffed counter3 stops south

Addresses, hours and crowd tips for Sheung Shui are on our Sheung Shui and Fanling page; Sha Tin’s counter and seven machines are on the Sha Tin Bitcoin ATM page. If what you want is money in the bank rather than cash in hand, selling on a licensed exchange and withdrawing usually costs least; see cashing out.

Check times before you set off. The COINHERO machine in Sheung Shui runs 24 hours, so you can sell at any time; One Satoshi’s Sheung Shui counter opens 10:30am to 7pm on weekdays and closes earlier, at 6pm, at weekends and on public holidays. Sheung Shui town centre gets heavy cross-boundary shopping crowds at weekends, so take extra care carrying cash through busy streets, avoid the peak hours if you can, and don’t count notes on the pavement afterwards.

Staying safe at a Tai Po ATM

Most of Tai Po’s machines are in estate laundromats, which are safe enough places to visit. The risk is the same scam pattern seen across Hong Kong: someone posing as a government department, courier or “investment mentor” tells you to feed cash into a crypto machine and send the coins to an address they provide. A South China Morning Post feature in September 2026 described how “grey-market” machines in laundromats and claw-machine arcades can turn users into fraud victims. Police figures put 2025 online investment-fraud losses at HK$3.58 billion, about a third involving virtual assets.

Only ever send coins to a wallet whose keys you control; if anyone hands you an address and asks you to “deposit first”, stop. Keep the receipt and transaction ID. If you suspect a scam, call the 18222 Anti-Scam Helpline, and read up on common tricks on our scams page.

Routes that skip the ATM

Licensed exchanges. As of October 2026 the SFC lists 13 licensed virtual-asset trading platforms. HashKey Exchange and OSL take HKD by FPS or eDDA, usually credited within minutes. See the full SFC-licensed platforms list and our FPS deposit guide.

Bitcoin ETFs. If you only want exposure to the Bitcoin price and don’t need to hold coins yourself, HKEX has listed spot Bitcoin ETFs since 30 April 2024, including ChinaAMC 3042, Harvest 3439 and Bosera HashKey 3008, which you can buy in an ordinary brokerage account. More on our Bitcoin ETF page.

Card purchases on an international platform. CEX.IO and similar platforms accept Visa, Mastercard and Apple Pay, and Hong Kong is not on CEX.IO’s unsupported list. It is not SFC-licensed, though, has no HKD or FPS deposits, your card issuer may code it as a cash advance, and Hong Kong investor protection doesn’t apply. To check any platform, compare its name and web address with the SFC’s licensed list.

Frequently asked questions

Where are the Bitcoin ATMs in Tai Po?

COINHERO and CoinUnit list five machines in Tai Po as of 6 October 2026: one each on Tai Ming Lane and Kwong Fuk Road near Tai Po Market, and three in Tai Yuen Estate, Fu Heng Shopping Centre and Fu Shin Shopping Centre. Three are open 24 hours. All are buy-only, and Localcoin has none in Tai Po. See the Bitcoin ATM map.

Is there a crypto shop in Tai Po?

No. As of October 2026 we found no staffed crypto counter in Tai Po on any operator website. The nearest are One Satoshi at Shatin Plaza and One Satoshi at 29 San Hong Street, Sheung Shui, each three East Rail stops from Tai Po Market. Compare shops across districts in our crypto shop guide.

Can I sell Bitcoin for cash in Tai Po?

Not in Tai Po itself: none of the five machines buys back. The nearest buy-back machine is COINHERO at G/F, 14–16 San Kung Street, Sheung Shui, open 24 hours, charging 13% plus HK$25, three stops north on the East Rail line. One Satoshi’s staffed Sheung Shui counter is close by. See Sheung Shui and Fanling.

How much do Tai Po Bitcoin ATMs charge?

COINHERO charges 13% plus HK$100 to buy, or 6.5% for registered members, with a HK$500 minimum and a first note of HK$1,000 or HK$500. CoinUnit doesn’t publish its fee and accepts only HK$500 and HK$1,000 notes. On HK$1,000 of Bitcoin, an unregistered COINHERO user pays HK$230 in fees.

Is a Bitcoin ATM a scam?

The machines are run by real operators, but scammers use them: victims are told to feed cash into a crypto ATM and send the coins to the scammer’s address. Anyone asking you to pay a bill, a fine or an “account unfreezing fee” through an ATM is almost certainly a fraudster. Only send to a wallet you control, and call 18222 if in doubt.
